There’s something truly special about welcoming guests who arrive as strangers and leave with unforgettable memories etched into their hearts.

Recently, we hosted a father and son who travelled all the way from Perth, Australia, for a four-day stay here at Riverstones Retreat. Their intention was simple — to experience world-class fly fishing on the renowned Tukituki River, with expert guidance and peaceful accommodation immersed in nature.

What unfolded was a fabulous day of perfect flyfishing - sightfishing at its best

Guided by Gavin, their time on the Tukituki River became an experience in both technique and connection for this river. With his calm, intuitive approach, Gavin supported them every step of the way — from refining casting techniques to reading the river and understanding the subtle rhythms of the water.

The result? Incredible fishing success, moments of excitement, and the kind of deep satisfaction that only comes from being fully present in nature.

But beyond the fish, it was the experience itself that left the greatest impression.

They spoke of Gavin’s ability to guide with patience and precision, his deep knowledge of the river, and the way he created an environment that felt both relaxed and empowering. Each day spent on the river, brought new learnings, new wins, and a growing appreciation for the art of fly fishing.

By the end of their stay, it was clear — this was more than just a trip. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It’s always an honour to be found by guests who are searching for Tukituki River fly fishing, a trusted local fly fishing guide, and very comfortable accommodation in Central Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand — and even more special when that search leads them here, to Riverstones.

We’re so grateful to have been part of their journey, and to share in the moments that matter most.

If you’re dreaming of your own Tukituki River fly fishing experience, guided by local expertise and paired with peaceful riverside accommodation, we’d love to welcome you for a stay at Riverstones Retreat.
